Meet Our Deacons

 

Bert Brunett

Bert lived near Speegleville, Texas on the Bosque River until the age of nine when his family moved to Lake Whitney after building Helm Lodge, a popular fishing camp in its day.  He grew up on the waters and in the woods of Hill county and has always had a great love for hunting and fishing.  He attended Whitney High School and joined the Navy at the age of seventeen after graduation in 1962.   Returning home in 1965, he attended Hill Jr. College and Texas A&M University graduating in 1970 with a degree in Parks and Recreation Science.  He married Margaret Curbo in 1968, a lifelong Hill county resident, and they raised their three sons, Brad, Jason, and Nathan, here in Whitney.  Margaret is a retired registered nurse.  Bert was baptized into Christ in 1970 by Joe Blakeney at the Whitney Church of Christ, serving as a Deacon since 2010.   He retired from the Corps of Engineers in 2001 as Reservoir Manager of Lake Whitney and Aquilla after a thirty plus year career with the Corps.


Brad Brunett

Brad Brunett is one of the deacons here at the Whitney Church of Christ. He grew up in the church and has served as a deacon for the past 15 years. Brad works for the Brazos River Authority in Waco as the Regional Manager for the central and lower basins. Brad is married to Angie Brunett and they have 3 children. Kaley is married and resides in College Station, where she works as a nurse, and her husband AJ, works as a personal trainer. Cole lives in Fort Worth and is a project manager for FCL Builders and Brock is a senior at Whitney High School and plans to attend Texas A&M University after graduation. Angie works at Whitney Elementary as a reading specialist in the elementary grades. Outside of work and serving as a deacon, in his free time, Brad enjoys hunting and fishing and spending time with family.


Donnie Button

Donnie has been a deacon for several years. He was born in Dallas and raised in Whitney. Donnie graduated from Whitney High School and began working for David’s Supermarket  and is currently working in the procurement department of Brookshire Brothers’ Grocery. He married Melanie and together they have two children, Monica and Jacob.  Melanie is a librarian and reading specialist with Whitney ISD. Donnie was a reserve sheriff’s deputy for Hill County for over 20 years, and he enjoys watching the Dallas Stars during hockey season.


Bruce Dennis

Bruce was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico but was raised in Texas, obeying the Gospel when he was nine years old.  He hails from a long line of ministry professionals, with his father, grandfather, uncle, and cousins all involved in various ministries.  He has been married to his amazing wife, Amy, for eight years, having met her while stationed in California.

Bruce and Amy have been blessed with three children adopted into their family, Nathaniel, Faith, and Victoria.  Bruce graduated from Abilene Christian University with a BA in communications, which has been invaluable to him over the years, working in ministry positions like Bible classes, pulpit preaching, and the prison ministry.  After 29 years of service with the federal law enforcement community, Bruce retired in March of 2018 and the family relocated to the Whitney area where Bruce and Amy now serve with the church.
